On June 14 after our Sunday worship, join us outside Lyman House for our Annual Parish Picnic. We will provide pulled pork from the Holy Smoker. Bring a dessert to share!
St. Luke’s joins with fellow Episcopalians for Kentuckiana Pride
St. Luke’s will be joining with other Episcopal Churches in our Diocese to take part in the Kentuckiana Pride Parade and Festival on Saturday, June 20. You are invited to march in the Pride Parade, staff a booth for the Episcopal Church at the Festival, or both. For those interested in marching in the Pride Parade, our group will gather in front of Guacamole restaurant (900 E Market Street, Louisville) at 10 AM. Streets will be closed off for the event, so please make sure you leave extra time to park and walk to the meet up point. St. Luke’s is hosting BibleTimes Marketplace this year!

BibleTimes Marketplace is an immersive experience where the stories of the Bible come to life. This is an ecumenical, multigenerational experience led with our covenant partners, Anchorage Presbyterian and Epiphany Catholic churches. The curriculum is designed as a seven-cycle offering, taught in sequence for seven summers. Children are placed into families, which serve as their BibleTimes family for the week. Each morning begins in their tent with a short lesson and bread-making before traveling together to different stations, including Craft Marketplace, Storytelling, Music, and Games. On Friday, the entire camp embarks on a special Pilgrimage, walking together to tell the final story of the week.
St. Luke’s Art Show - Calling all Artists
To celebrate our new gallery hanging system in the lower level, we will be hosting an art show to celebrate the artists of our parish. The show will open on June 14, the day of our church picnic, and will be on display through the summer.
Habitat for Humanity Episcopal Build
St. Luke’s is joining with other Episcopal churches in Louisville to build a Habitat house this year. The construction will begin on June 24. Volunteers are needed on June 24, 25, and 26. Louisville Bats Game
On July 11th we will be going to a Louisville Bats baseball game! Tickets cost $17 a person. To reserve a ticket, call the church office at (502) 245-8827 or email admin@stlukesanchorage.org. Payment needs to be at the church office by July 3.
Support Our Monthly Mission Partner
Our Monthly Mission Partner for June is Louisville Youth Group. Louisville Youth Group empowers LGBTQIA+ youth to grow into healthy and resilient leaders through community connection, life skills education, and social advocacy. Louisville Youth Group Inc was established in the late 80s by local community members and PFLAG. They recognized the need to provide safe and affirming space for Kentuckiana’s LGBTQIA+ youth. Since then, LYG has served thousands of young people from Kentuckiana and the surrounding area. In addition to their regular programming, they annually host a Pasta Dinner/Talent Show, Prom, Youth Leadership Retreat, New Year’s Eve Lock-in, and actively participate in Kentuckiana’s Pride Month celebrations and Pride visibility opportunities. The Reflections Band is taking a break this summer.
They will continue to play at the 5pm service through the feast of Pentecost, May 24 and will return in September. This summer we will be trying out a few different styles of worship at the 5pm service. Beginning May 31 and continuing through June we will have a contemplative Holy Eucharist with piano music.
Aging honestly, aging gracefully -Dick Schmidt to offer a four-week class in June.
“I know so much more now than when I was younger, yet fewer and fewer people seem to want my advice!” quipped Dick Schmidt. Author of seven books on Christian spirituality, Dick has now written an eighth book, entitled Wrestling with God: A Year of Meditations for Questioning Christians, and will lead a discussion group based on that book in the chapel of the Episcopal Church Home on Westport Road, on Wednesdays in June, at 3:00 pm, beginning June 3. The course is entitled “Aging honestly, aging gracefully.” St. Luke’s parishioners are invited to be part of the group. No advance reservation or registration is necessary. “You will quickly realize reading this book that it was written by an old man,” Dick wrote in the preface to the book. “I would have written a rather different book when I was younger and even considered subtitling this book A Year of Meditations from an Old Christian. It’s not that this book is about aging….It’s just that I see things now that I didn’t see when I was young.”
Although most of the meditations in Wrestling with God don’t pertain directly to aging, some do and class sessions will be based on those meditations.
Volunteers needed for the Music Academy
Those of you who have taken Safeguarding God's Children know the requirements well - we are not meant to be alone with a child or children. In the Music Academy we need volunteers to sit either in the choir room or just outside the glass doors during lessons which are taught Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, usually 3:30 - 5:30. Perhaps you could pick one of those days and bring a book to read, or write letters, or a creative project and enjoy hearing a piano or voice lesson! Please speak to Lisa if you're interested in helping us fulfill these requirements. Sometimes the parent stays in the lesson. The schedule will most likely change at the end of the school year. Some years we have more students during the summer, some we have fewer. Many thanks for your consideration. The children are delightful in their creativity and their fun questions.
A Group for Those Experiencing Grief
Sign up now to be a part of the Grief Share group at St. Luke’s. The group will follow a curriculum designed around processing the shared experience of losing someone. There are only 15 spots available, so please let the church office know as soon as possible that you would like to participate. The first meeting will be April 14 at 6 pm in the multipurpose room! We have Godly Play for children at the 10am service the First Sunday of the month.
Godly play is Montessori-style program where we share stories of our faith from the Bible, church history, and our liturgy. The program seeks to give each child the vocabulary to express their inherent relationship with God and encourage their faith journey in our community. During the service, children from the age of 4 through fourth grade are invited to follow the cross out of the nave during the Gloria to go hear the Godly Play story of the day. Children will return at the Peace so that we will all be together for Communion.
St. Luke’s hosts an AA meeting every Thursday at 6 pm in Board Hall.
Caregiver Support Group at the Episcopal Church Home
Build a support system with people who understand. Support groups create a safe, confidential, supportive environment or community and a chance for participants to develop informal mutual support and social relationships. They also educate and inform participants about dementia and help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems. Please join us for this FREE support group! Help Out Our Neighbors Through EACM
Each month through Eastern Area Community Ministries (EACM) we collect food and household supplies to help support our neighbors in our community. We invite everyone to take a “Big Red Bag” home and bring it back to worship on the third Sunday of each month filled with the specially requested monthly items (broth, cereal, laundry detergent, olive or vegetable oil, pancake mix and syrup, and shampoo and conditioner). Spread the News About Our Music Academy at St. Luke’s
We are continuing to expand our Music Academy at St. Luke’s as we provide opportunities for music teaching and performance for the community. We have added around a dozen new instructors, nearly all of whom hold a Master’s Degree in Performance, and who will be teaching violin, viola, cello, guitar, strings, brass, woodwinds, trumpet, flute, oboe, clarinet, organ, piano, harpsichord, and of course, voice! Now, we are starting a Children's Choir for ages 7 and up. The choir meets on Wednesdays 4:00 - 5:00 pm. We have invited children from the Anchorage School to join us and need your help to spread the word with other children or grandchildren or neighbors with children. Let everyone know about this great new ministry in our community. So, spread the good news and let your friends and neighbors know about this great new ministry to our community.
Come for Breakfast and Bible Study
Every Sunday at 9 am in Board Hall we eat breakfast and learn more about Holy Scripture. Benjamin is currently teaching the class on the lectionary readings.

Come to Our Wednesday Bible Study
Join us on Wednesday mornings at 9:45 am for bible study in person in the downstairs Vestry Room of our new building. We are currently studying the book of Psalms.
Join The Daughters of the King
The Daughters of the King (DOK) is an Order (a life-long commitment) for women in The Episcopal Church whose Mission is the extension of Christ’s Kingdom through Prayer, Service, and Evangelism. Eat Breakfast with The Brotherhood of St. Andrew
The Brotherhood of St. Andrew is a worldwide ministry to men and boys with the vision to inspire, empower, and equip members to fulfill the Great Commission through prayer, study, and service. Our St. Luke’s Chapter meets on the first Saturday of every month for breakfast at 8:45 am and a program at 9:00 am. All men and boys are welcome to attend.
