MISSION AND OUTREACH

ABOUT MISSION AND OUTREACH

Be part of a community making a difference in Anchorage and beyond. St. Luke's has a long history of service in the community stretching back to assisting  flood victims in the 1930s to welcoming refugees new to our city today. We are committed to serving those in need in our area and the wider world. We do this in part through our Monthly Mission Partners which allow us to support a range of local, regional, and international organizations that focus on food insecurity, flood relief, prison rehabilitation programs, and more.

Eastern Area Community Ministries

St. Luke's is one of the supporting parishes of the Eastern Area Community Ministries that serves that eastern part of Jefferson Country. Each month we collect a variety of goods for their food pantry in our 'big red bag' ministry. We have also supported the diaper drive for new mothers in need each year.

Kentucky Refugee Ministries

St. Luke's recently began a refugee ministry in partnership with the Kentucky Refugee Ministries organization. They have been working for over three decades to help resettle and support those coming to our city. We seek to bring hope, kindness, and stability to the lives of newcomers. We have assisted in the resettlement of several families from Afghanistan and another from Ukraine.

Home of the Innocents

St. Luke's is a long time supporter of the work of the Home of the Innocents. For several decades we have hosted our annual Silver Tea as a fundraiser. Home of the Innocents provides services for medically complex children and children and families in the welfare system. We also have individuals and groups volunteer as well.

Our Monthly Mission Partners

Each month St. Luke's picks a local, regional, or international organization to support with giving at the last service of each month. We spend the month praying, learning, and listening to supporters and employees of these organizations as they help our parish understand the vital work they are doing and how we can help and do more. Below you will find a brief overview of some of the organizations St. Luke's has worked with in the last year.

Prodigal Ministries

Our March mission partner focuses on helping all of those transitioning from prison to society to become self-sufficient and avoid re-incarceration which is an all to common experience.

Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief

In October of 2022 we supported the work of the Diocese of Lexington, which serves the eastern part of Kentucky, in response to the terrible flooding in the area. Our donations helped to buy school supplies for the local schools.

Blessings in a Backpack

In January of 2023 we supported the work of the Louisville chapter of Blessings in a Backpack. They help feed 4,000 students in over 35 schools in the Jefferson County Public School system. Our giving helped support children in need and give them food assistance on the weekend when not in school.

Wellspring Mental Health Services

In December of 2022 we supported the local organization WellSpring. They were founded by local Episcopalians over forty years ago to serve the needs of persons with serious or persistent psychiatric illnesses. Our giving helped them continue this important work in our community.
