Invitation to Bring Photos for All Saints' Day

This Sunday we will be celebrating All Saints' and All Souls' Days. Part of this celebration is remembering all of the faithful departed. You are invited to bring photographs of loved ones who have died to church this weekend. We will place these photos around the altar with candles as part of our worship.

Today we are using the Rite I liturgy, with traditional language. We use this liturgy four times a year.

Please include a memo line in any checks written to the church.

We are hoping to conclude the matching campaign to eliminate the debt on the new building by the end of October. If you have any questions about your outstanding pledge, please contact Peter Finnis.

Annual Stewardship Campaign

We are beginning our annual stewardship campaign to support the mission and ministry of St. Luke's. Listen in the coming weeks as parishioners share what this church means to them, leading up to our final ingathering on Sunday, November 22. Pledge cards will arrive in the mail, and extras are available in the entrances of the nave.

DOK Meeting

At the next meeting time, November 14 at 10 am, all women are invited to hear about the Grief Share ministry active at St. Luke's. Please reach out to Kathy Regneri or Stephanie Taylor if you have any questions.

Support Our Annual Coat Collection

This is our 14th year participating in an annual coat collection that provides free coats to anyone that needs one. This is part of a Coat Exchange program throughout the Louisville area. St. Luke’s is collecting coats along with other churches and local companies. These coats will be distributed on Black Friday, November 27. Coats can be placed in collection boxes at the church side entrance or on Lyman House back porch. Men’s sizes 2X, 3X, and 4X are needed. Costco, Sam’s, and Walmart have reasonably priced youth coats. Good Will and other secondhand stores have large size men’s coats. St. Luke’s has donated nearly 1600 coats, so help those in need and make your donation by Thursday November 26.

Dick Schmidt to lead class on “When God speaks”

Does God actually speak to people? God spoke to Moses from the burning bush, to Samuel in the middle of the night, and to Paul on the road to Damascus. But does God still do that? How would you recognize the voice of God? Dick Schmidt will lead four hour-long explorations of those questions in a class entitled “When God Speaks” on Tuesdays in October, beginning October 6, from 3:15 to 4:15 pm in the chapel at the Episcopal Church Home, 1201 Lyndon Lane. Using meditations from his unpublished manuscript Wrestling with God and other material, Dick will examine biblical accounts, tell of his own encounters with the voice of God, and invite participants to share experiences, pose questions, and explore ways of tuning in to the divine. St. Luke's parishioners are invited. No sign-up is required.

Children's Choir rehearsals resume have resumed on Wednesdays from 5-6 pm

Do you know children who like to sing? Kids ages 7 and up are invited to join this fun group. We rehearse in the choir room in the Undercroft. Tami Stoecker assists in training and conducting the children and treats are provided. The choir is an outreach to the Anchorage/Middletown community and is provided at no charge.

A Group for Those Experiencing Grief

Sign up now to be a part of the Grief Share group at St. Luke’s. The group will follow a curriculum designed around processing the shared experience of losing someone. There are only 15 spots available, so please let the church office know as soon as possible that you would like to participate. The first meeting will be September 29 at 6 pm in Board Hall! Call 502-245-8827 or email admin@stlukesanchorage.org to secure your spot!

Volunteers needed for the Music Academy

Those of you who have taken Safeguarding God's Children know the requirements well - we are not meant to be alone with a child or children. In the Music Academy we need volunteers to sit either in the choir room or just outside the glass doors during lessons which are taught Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons, usually 3:30 - 5:30. Perhaps you could pick one of those days and bring a book to read, or write letters, or a creative project and enjoy hearing a piano or voice lesson! Please speak to Lisa if you're interested in helping us fulfill these requirements. Sometimes the parent stays in the lesson.  The schedule will most likely change at the end of the school year. Some years we have more students during the summer, some we have fewer. Many thanks for your consideration. The children are delightful in their creativity and their fun questions.

We have Godly Play for children at the 10am service the First Sunday of the month.

Godly play is Montessori-style program where we share stories of our faith from the Bible, church history, and our liturgy. The program seeks to give each child the vocabulary to express their inherent relationship with God and encourage their faith journey in our community. During the service, children from the age of 4 through fourth grade are invited to follow the cross out of the nave during the Gloria to go hear the Godly Play story of the day. Children will return at the Peace so that we will all be together for Communion.

Move Forward Day by Day

Forward Movement, a ministry of The Episcopal Church, grew out of the determination of the General Convention in 1934 to counter a period of anxiety, distrust, and decline in The Episcopal Church with a “forward movement” charged to “reinvigorate the life of the church and to rehabilitate its general, diocesan, and parochial work.” Pick up one of the free Forward Day by Day booklets to access the daily meditations based on scripture readings appointed by the lectionary and Daily Office. Or, go online to prayer.forwardmovement.org to access Forward Day by Day and a wide variety of other resources to enhance your spiritual life.
