On Sunday we are using the Rite I liturgy, with traditional language. We use this liturgy four times a year in honor of our history. Here are the other dates for this year: November 1.
We are hoping to conclude the matching campaign to eliminate the debt on the new building by the end of October. If you have any questions about your outstanding pledge, please contact Peter Finnis.
The Reflections Band will be back at the 5 pm service on September 6. If you like contemporary style Christian music come and join us.
Sunday Evening Services in August
We will be using a variety of evening prayer liturgies at the 5pm Sunday service during August. Come try out these ancient forms of prayer from the Anglican tradition.
August 2 – Spoken Evening Prayer, Rite II
August 9 – Evening Prayer, Rite II with Holy Eucharist and Sung Canticles
August 16 – Evening Prayer and Holy Eucharist from the New Zealand Prayer Book
August 23 – Sung Compline at 7pm following the Low Country Boil
August 30 – Evening Prayer, Rite I with Holy Eucharist
Annual Music Gala - Saturday, September 10 at 5:00 pm
We gather each year to celebrate our donors to the Evensong/Recital Series at St. Luke's and hear a wonderful recital presented by Dylon and Paige Crain. We'll start in the church for the recital and move to Board Hall for a festive reception. What a perfect opportunity to bring a friend or neighbor to this lovely event. Dylon has graduated with his Master's Degree from University of Kentucky and will be teaching at Xavier University. Check out Dylon's website at dyloncrain.com for more information.
The Confirmation/Reception class will start August 30.
The Confirmation/Reception class will meet Sundays at 3 pm starting on August 30. Bishop White will be visiting our church on Sunday, October 18. On that day he will confirm people who were baptized as infants or children and who have not made an adult affirmation of faith. He will also officially receive anyone into the Episcopal denomination who has come from a different denomination. To prepare for his visit, Benjamin will be teaching a class for those who would like to be confirmed or received, or anyone who would just like to learn more. 2nd Annual Harambee Celebration at St. Matthews Episcopal Church 5-8pm
Harambee is a Swahili word with the meaning of pulling together in unity to achieve a community goal. Harambee embodies the spirit of Kenya Kids at Rongo, Inc. as we work together to support the orphans at Ebenezer Children’s Center just outside Rongo, Kenya. Join us on Sat., Oct. 24 for the second annual celebration as we celebrate Kenyan culture to benefit Ebenezer Children’s Center (Entertainment, Dinner, Fellowship) $50 will support the care of a Kenyan orphan for 1 month. Buy tickets online www.kenyakidsatrongo.org. Tickets $50 per person. $300 for a table of 7. Children 7-12 $25 and 6 and under free. Tickets available at the door for $60.
A Group for Those Experiencing Grief
Sign up now to be a part of the Grief Share group at St. Luke’s. The group will follow a curriculum designed around processing the shared experience of losing someone. There are only 15 spots available, so please let the church office know as soon as possible that you would like to participate. The first meeting will be September 29 at 6 pm in Board Hall! Volunteers needed for the Music Academy
Those of you who have taken Safeguarding God's Children know the requirements well - we are not meant to be alone with a child or children. In the Music Academy we need volunteers to sit either in the choir room or just outside the glass doors during lessons which are taught Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons, usually 3:30 - 5:30. Perhaps you could pick one of those days and bring a book to read, or write letters, or a creative project and enjoy hearing a piano or voice lesson! Please speak to Lisa if you're interested in helping us fulfill these requirements. Sometimes the parent stays in the lesson. The schedule will most likely change at the end of the school year. Some years we have more students during the summer, some we have fewer. Many thanks for your consideration. The children are delightful in their creativity and their fun questions.
We have Godly Play for children at the 10am service the First Sunday of the month.
Godly play is Montessori-style program where we share stories of our faith from the Bible, church history, and our liturgy. The program seeks to give each child the vocabulary to express their inherent relationship with God and encourage their faith journey in our community. During the service, children from the age of 4 through fourth grade are invited to follow the cross out of the nave during the Gloria to go hear the Godly Play story of the day. Children will return at the Peace so that we will all be together for Communion.
Caregiver Support Group at the Episcopal Church Home
Build a support system with people who understand. Support groups create a safe, confidential, supportive environment or community and a chance for participants to develop informal mutual support and social relationships. They also educate and inform participants about dementia and help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems. Please join us for this FREE support group! Help Out Our Neighbors Through EACM
Each month through Eastern Area Community Ministries (EACM) we collect food and household supplies to help support our neighbors in our community. We invite everyone to take a “Big Red Bag” home and bring it back to worship on the third Sunday of each month filled with the specially requested monthly items (broth, dried beans, laundry detergent, pancake mix and syrup, diapers size 4). Spread the News About Our Music Academy at St. Luke’s
We are continuing to expand our Music Academy at St. Luke’s as we provide opportunities for music teaching and performance for the community. We have added around a dozen new instructors, nearly all of whom hold a Master’s Degree in Performance, and who will be teaching violin, viola, cello, guitar, strings, brass, woodwinds, trumpet, flute, oboe, clarinet, organ, piano, harpsichord, and of course, voice! Now, we are starting a Children's Choir for ages 7 and up. The choir meets on Wednesdays 4:00 - 5:00 pm. We have invited children from the Anchorage School to join us and need your help to spread the word with other children or grandchildren or neighbors with children. Let everyone know about this great new ministry in our community. So, spread the good news and let your friends and neighbors know about this great new ministry to our community.
Come for Breakfast and Bible Study
Every Sunday at 9 am in Board Hall we eat breakfast and learn more about Holy Scripture. Benjamin is currently teaching the class on the lectionary readings.

Come to Our Wednesday Bible Study
Join us on Wednesday mornings at 9:45 am for bible study in person in the downstairs Vestry Room of our new building. We are currently studying the book of Psalms.
Join The Daughters of the King
The Daughters of the King (DOK) is an Order (a life-long commitment) for women in The Episcopal Church whose Mission is the extension of Christ’s Kingdom through Prayer, Service, and Evangelism. Eat Breakfast with The Brotherhood of St. Andrew
The Brotherhood of St. Andrew is a worldwide ministry to men and boys with the vision to inspire, empower, and equip members to fulfill the Great Commission through prayer, study, and service. Our St. Luke’s Chapter meets on the first Saturday of every month for breakfast at 8:45 am and a program at 9:00 am. All men and boys are welcome to attend. Experience Centering Prayer

Cub Scout Pack 274 meets at St. Luke’s Church, with Drew Hensel as the Committee Chair, Steve Kaebnick as the Cubmaster, and your Rector as the Executive Officer.
