Outreach at St. Luke's
When we love God, we worship and we pray;
when we love our neighbor, we serve!
Someone once said, "that service is the rent we pay on our life."
The following is how we serve God and our community:
Cub Scout Pack 274- St. Luke's Cub Scout Pack 274 is part of the Lincoln Heritage Council, Seneca District. The pack, founded in 1995 serves elementary age boys in the first through fifth grades. Boys can join the pack at any time, as long as they fall within the age range for the program (i.e., it is not required to participate in all years). The Pack is active during the typical school year. If you are interested please contact Jeff Unger at 594-0910
Food for the Poor- Is a charity that helps feed, clothe and educate the poor of Jamaica. Over the past several years this parish has not only contributed financially to this organization (last year raising enough money to build two houses), but has had parishioners go on personally trips to Jamaica to see first hand the needs and the results of our contributions.
Heifer International- Is a wonderful organization that helps people all over the world to start cottage industries from the animals that are purchased for them through donors. St. Luke's has encouraged it's own members to give gifts of animals as Christmas and Birthday presents and even contributed 2% our annual budget to Food for the Poor and Heifer International.
Neighborhood Home Renovations- Parishioners have taken tools in hand to go out into our community and aid needy individuals and families in the cleaning and renovation of their home and property.
Kentucky Refugee Ministry- St. Luke's has sponsored refugee families from Russia and Burma. Not only have we contributed financially to their resettlement, but by donating items to set up housekeeping.
Kidsclothes- St. Luke's has helped this wonderful organization in a myriad of ways to raise funds to buy undergarments for children. Most recently the parish has helped with the Kidsclothes BBQ. To date Kidsclothes has purchased and distributed nearly a million pieces of undergarments for children.
Anchorage Fire Dept.- Through chaplaincy by our clergy we support our local firefighters in a variety of ways.
Prodigal Prision Ministries- Volunteers give prisoners recently released from prison a leg up in adjusting to their new lives by mentoring prisoners, donating clothing, household goods and supplies as well as money to support half-way houses in the community.
Franciscan Shelter House- Some members of the parish volunteer during the week to work in this downtown soup kitchen.
Wayside Christian Mission- A group of volunteers from our parish make regular trips to the Mission to serve food on the first Saturdays of each month. From time to time they also have "showers" to collect items needed by the Mission.
Episcopal Church Home- For years St. Luke's has been involved with it's members volunteering and being on the Board of the Home. For over 40 years St. Luke's has hosted a "Silver Tea" for all interested. This is the longest running fund raiser that the home as ever had.
Caring for our Armed Forces- Several times in the past years, various groups in the parish have collected items needed by our men and women at arms. Most recently these endeavors have been led by the youth of our parish.
Eastern Area Community Ministries- We are active participants financially and otherwise in our area ministry that ministers to the needs of Eastern Jefferson County.
Aunt Mary's Storybook Project- Help mothers in prison stay connected with their children at a particularly difficult time. Volunteers provide books, faciliate the mother's recording of the books and send the book and recording to the children.
